Conley Sister Shawl - Digital Knitting Pattern

$6.50

When I was planning for the Unwind Retreat in Kansas City, I was doing some research on famous sisters in Kansas City

history to inspire my retreat pattern. I came across the Conley Sisters and knew these heroic women were the perfect

inspiration for a shawl. Lyda, Helena and Ida Conley protected the Wyandot National Burying Ground in the center of

the city from being desecrated and developed. From 1906 to 1913, the sisters physically occupied the cemetery in

makeshift ‘Fort Conley’ and Lyda took the legal case all the way to the Supreme Court, becoming the first Native

American Woman to argue a case before the Supreme Court . These 3 brave sisters are now buried together in that

very cemetery.

Thank you so much for your support of Conley Sister! Please use the tag #ConleySisterShawl to share with me on

instagram! Seeing your yarn choices and watching your progress is the greatest joy. Happy knitting!
